Zoya Sunshine Collection Review

Hey everyone! I just did a video review for the Zoya Sunshine collection for this summer which is shown below. I swatch all of the colors for you guys and give my thoughts on the formula, color selection, and my personal favorites. Beauty Faves of the Moment: Zoya Anchor Base Coat

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to talk about my newfound base coat love--Zoya Anchor (if you couldn't already tell from the title, hah!) It comes in the Zoya Color Lock system kit, or alone on zoya.com, but I went for it and decided to try out the whole kit! One of my favorite items included, by far, is the absolutely amazing base coat. It makes your polish stick on for so long and really prevents that annoying peeling effect that we all hate. I have been using this consistently for the past few months and it definitely tops any base coat I've used, both in speedy drying time and in wear time. The formula itself is not sticky, thick, or runny; its typical Zoya perfect formula!! More pictures of this little gem below:

Scrangie Interview!

Hey everyone!! I recently had the awesome oppurtunity of being able to interview the fabulous nail polish blogger, Scrangie!! I really enjoyed hearing about a fellow nail polish blogger, not to mention a FABULOUS one at that! Hope you all enjoy!

Polish Earthgirl- How do you keep your nails in their best shape? Any specific products or techniques?

Scrangie- The most important thing is a little preventative care. First, a good treatment (which I use as a basecoat)- my holy grail product is Qtica Natural Nail Growth Stimulator, but I've also had good results from Nubar Nu Nail. Second, lots of moisture every day. I love Solar Oil. Last, a good quality glass or crystal file will make a nice sealed edge and prevent splitting to some extent- I use both OPI and Essie brand ones. Other than that, I don't really do much to my nails besides shaping every now and then. It's also important not to have your hands in water for long periods of time and never use your nails as tools. So that's how I keep my nails in their best shape!

P.E.- When did you begin your collection? What made you want to start it in the first place?

S.- I've been collecting nail polish for as long as I remember. I started out on Avon, Maybelline, L'Oreal, Revlon, mostly drugstore brands and then started collecting OPI. Even as a little kid I loved makeup and nail polish and my mom always had fun stuff around.

P.E.- Your manicures in your swatches are always picture perfect! Any tips on creating that perfect, neat mani?

S.- What I do is get a good amount of polish on the brush- it will be too much for the nail, but this allows for a smooth application. I place the brush and the bead of polish just above the cuticle, press down gently to allow the bristles to fan out and make a nice curve and I 'push' the bead of polish down the nail. This prevents polish from pooling in the cuticles and also helps with streaks and uneven application.

P.E.- Which type of polish are you currently into? Creme colors, matte colors, shimmer colors, or anything else?

S.- Right now I'm into cremes and duochromes. I'm currently loving greys, taupes, vampies and greens. The new Orly Space Cadet is on my tips right now and I can't stop looking at it! I'm ready for fall so my mind is on deeper, richer colors.

P.E.- What do you think the standout trends of this year have been? Spring, Summer (maybe the upcoming Fall) ?

S.- Two things stand out to me most- the taupe/grey/putty/greige trend and this new duochrome glass fleck finish that most of the brands are doing this year (like Zoya Sparkle, Orly Cosmic FX, OPI Catch Me In Your Net, Sally Hansen Ultra HD) Both trends are really wearable and flattering but also stylish and fun!

P.E.- What are your favorite brands formula wise and color wise?

S.- This is hard. I like lots of polishes from lots of different brands...I'd have to say OPI first because they are really consistent in their formula and it works well on me. Rescue Beauty Lounge, Nubar and Illamasqua for the colors and formula. China Glaze and Zoya for the amazing color selection and creativity. Sally Hansen has been really good color-wise this year. So many great brands, I like a little of everything!

P.E.- What cool things have you gotten out of having your blog?

The best thing is interacting with polish and makeup lovers all over the world. It's unbelievable. So many great people! I've made lots of polish buddies! How cool is it to know that someone on the other side of the globe is wearing the same nail polish you are? Haha!
Another cool thing is seeing how the blogging and online community can influence nail polish trends. We ask for greens, they give us greens! So amazing to know we all have a voice!

P.E.- Which is your the season of nail polish collections that you look forward to the most?

S.- FALL FALL FALL!! Fall is my favorite season for everything, but nail polish especially. Deep rich colors, glitter, purples and oranges and browns... I look forward to fall every year.

P.E.- I have seen from your blog that you are into makeup as well! Which makeup products can you not live without?

S.- The two things tied for my first place can't-live-without status are mascara and eye primer. Mascara is my most important item, but if I'm going to wear shadow (and I am!) primer is non-negotiable. I love Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Urban Decay Primer Potion and MAC Paint Pots. And I love my Cover Girl Lash Blast and L'Oreal Volume Shocking mascara!
I also can't live without bright sparkly eyeshadow. I'm a MAC lover at heart. Great formulas and color selection. Urban Decay is great. I've been playing around a lot with Make Up For Ever and Fyrinnae lately and having lots of fun!

P.E.- What do you enjoy doing when you are not painting your nails or blogging?

S.- Birdwatching, gaming, cooking, music... Does that sound boring? I spend a lot of time in nature, anything to get me away from the computer! Haha!

P.E.- What color(s) would you consider your signature polish?

S.- Am I allowed to say Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie? If not that, it would have to be something like OPI Ink or My Private Jet, maybe Nubar Violet Sparkle. I wear those colors more than anything else... I guess my signature color would be some variation of purple or green and sparkly!

OPI Swiss Collection Swatches Part 1: The Cremes

Good afternoon readers! Today, I am going to give you all my thoughts on OPI's newest collection for this Fall/Winter: Swiss! All of these colors are Switzerland themed, which gives us no shortage of funny color names! This is just the first half of the collection (I wanted to divide it up) so expect the other half of the collection up soon, keep on checking back for the post! Enjoy and let me know what you think in the comments below!!

William Tell Me About OPI. This is a super deep, rich eggplant color, which I think is perfect for a Fall/Winter set. I personally love this shade and I can see myself wearing it throughout the rest of the calendar year. Might I add that OPI tends to do "vampy" colors, like this, very well!

Color So Hot It Berns. This bright, pure red seems perfect for the holiday season coming up in a few months! Very pretty and flattering on the nail are the first things that come to mind, however, not too unique. I still like this one--it does look quite good on!

I'm Suzi & I'm a Chocoholic. Okay I have a bit to say about the particular shade of this polish. It seems to be a very very red-toned brown but when I looked at it in the shade, it looked like a very deep maroon red. I stepped into the sun and suddenly it looked a whole lot more brown. Very strange, as cremes usually do not change color like that... this seems to be a mystery to me. Anyway, back to the point, although the color-changing does intrigue me, I do not particularly care for this shade.

Just a Little Rösti At This. I'd describe this color as a soft maroon berry, which to me, is perfect for the season! I like this color quite a bit and I think it looks fabulous once on the nail. This would make a very good Fall pedi color as well.

From A to Z-urich. This is just a muted berry red. I compared this to Zoya Burke and although they may look similar they are not dupes, the OPI is a bit darker. About the color... I'm not so sure that this one is really worth a lot of attention. It's not a bad looking color just quite boring.

Ski Teal We Drop. I love that name!! This is a slightly muted dark teal blue which I absolutely love!!! Please pardon the tipwear in the swatches--I'd been wearing it for a while. This is an awesome color for Fall/Winter and I can't wait to wear it more! This is by far a front runner in the collection which I think everyone should pick up; it's lovely!!

All were two coats with very nice opacity and formula! Full collection thoughts in Part 2... stay tuned!

Just for Fun! Beauty Quiz

This little poll has been floating around the internet for a while now, so I thought I'd finally do it. It's a "would you rather beauty quiz" so here are my answers to the questions and I encourage you all to do the same and answer these questions down in the comments! You do not have to go as in depth as I did, unless you want to of course!! Happy quizzing :)

#1. Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice make-up, or nice hair and no make-up?
Nice hair and no makeup. I think that being confident in your natural beauty is important not to forget. You don't need makeup all the time! Plus, that fabulous hair you'll be sporting will bring your appearance up a notch!

#2. Would you rather shave your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?
Have my eyelashes fall out. Wait... am I allowed to wear fake lashes? :)

#3. Would you rather be forced to shop at only MAC or Sephora for the rest of your life?
Sephora because they have a much wider variety of things they carry in the store. I can find anything from eyeshadow to bath products to lash curlers!

#4. Would you rather wear the lipgloss/lipliner look or 80's perm?
Oh boy, neither honestly! Well, I guess I'd have to say a lipgloss/lipliner look because it's less obvious from afar.

#5. Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?
Overdone blush. An obvious foundation line is pretty scary looking since it looks like you are wearing a different face! With too much blush, I could just say that I got a bit to much sun at the beach! :D

#6. Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or biker shorts in public?
Biker shorts. What's wrong with being sporty?

#7. Would you rather have a bad orange-y spray tan or really weird tan lines that can't be covered?
Really weird tan lines because it is like my worst fear EVER to look like a human traffic cone!! Yuck! In my opinion, weird tan lines (like from a really strappy swimsuit or something) at least make you look like you have been having a good time at the beach or a pool! Plus, the darker tan color is all natural :)

#8. Would you rather have a bad haircut or bad hair color?
Hmm, this is a tough one. Probably a bad hair cut because I have had one before, like in the past year, and it's a bit easier to hide than a wacko hair color! I just played with bobby pins and new styles. Believe me, it was horrible but I have yet to die my hair--I like my natural color!

#9. Would you rather have youtube or twitter taken away forever?
Twitter because, well, I don't use it. That's a little too easy.

#10. Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?

I think mascara because a mascara wand is technically a type of makeup brush (sorry for being cheap like that!)

Beauty Faves of the Moment: Featuring MAC

Today for Beauty Faves of the Moment, I am sharing with you my purchases at the MAC counter from a couple of weeks ago. I will let you know right now that I am in no way a MAC collector, these were the first two makeup items I have ever purchased from MAC (I know, don't laugh!) and I am so far really loving them! Let's hope MAC makeup isn't going to become next big collection, for my wallet's sake! I really did enjoy both of the products I tried out, though, and I will surely be stopping by the MAC counter again soon to bring home some more goodies :) So let's get to the products:

First off, I got a mineralize Blush Duo from the "In the Groove" Collection in the color Band of Roses. I love this shade! When the two sides of the duo are blended together, it creates a slightly shimmering deep rosy pink, similar to a natural flush. The sheen in this blush is very nice looking once on the cheeks!

Next, I got a Dazzle Lipstick from the "Digi-Pops" Collection. This is a lipstick infused with large pieces of shimmer, which looks great on! This lipstick went on particularly smooth for something that looks so textured and I like the fact that it wasn't a matte finish. I got the color Baby's on Fire; a coral-y red. Don't let the bright red in the tube scare you! It really goes on much lighter, however, it's easy to build up the intensity if you'd like.

Earth Update: Hand Sanitizer

Most of you all probably use things to sanitize your hands like that little "Purell" in a bottle. I did to until I met CleanWell All-Natural Hand Sanitizer at Whole Foods (for a complete list of stores CleanWell is sold at, click here.) This little guy is all natural while doing all of the germ-fighting we want. It's plant based, not alcohol based, which makes it have a yummy scent once you put it on too :) Read more below:

...and the spraying cap! That's another thing that's unique, it's not a gel formula--this makes the solution last much longer than traditional Purell hand sani.

I highly recommend that you all go out and pick up one of these little guys to just pop in your pocket/purse when you are on the run. Not only is the whole product eco-chic, it's also a bang for your buck! It contains enough product for over 225 sprays! Polish Of The Day: OPI Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow Suede

Hey all! Today I have got a treat to show you guys; a new addition to the OPI Suede Family! This is Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow, a dark green (which, in suede form, is much lighter than the original.) I have to say that I like this one much better than the original. You all know that I like my polishes to be obviously green, not the "is it green or black?" sort of thing. Photos below:

2 coats of color. (These pics were in natural and artificial lighting)

Overall if you are the type of green lover/collector like myself, it's worth picking up this one to add to your stash. However, I do think that the matte trend is coming to a close... but remember, with topcoat its a whole other polish! ;)

Essie The Summer Collection 2010 Review

Hey everyone! Sorry I have not been posting photos of polishes in a while but it's summer meaning the following: I am on vacation a lot and I am being more relaxed (which is a nicer version of saying lazy.) So to make up for that at least partly, here is the Essie summer collection--fully swatched and ready to go! Hope you all enjoy and remember to run on down to the comments and tell me your faves :)

Plus ignore my gross cuticles, another reason I haven't been swatching much lately but I bit the bullet for you guys!! <3>

First off here is Demure Vixen, a medium putty-mauve with teeny-tiny particles of red and bright purple microshimmer. The little shimmer in it is what sets this apart but you have to look close for it--hence the shade's name! I put a closeup down below so you can see that shimmer and in my opinion, this is what gives this color the WOW factor. Without that, it's just another mauve. This was a three-coater.

Next up is this gorgeously pink-toned coral, Haute as Hello! My swatches truly do not do this color justice because in real life it is much less pastel and way more of a "WHA-BAM! In your face!" type of shade. I personally love this one to death, I think it looks great with my skin tone and it would with so many other peoples as well! I got several compliments for the 3 days I sported this guy, one of which was "I think this may have to be one of my favorites on you!" If you are worried about finding a dupe, remember, this one has that fun summer brightness that packs a punch while still far off from neon territory. My style all the way, this is a winner. This was a three coater.

Here is Miss Matched. I can't say I really get the name of this one. Maybe because a sheer would match with everything? I'm not sure. Anyway, this milky white with a touch or pink sheer is not my style and really not summery. This one also was very watery and gave me some serious cuticle drag. I adore Essie's other sheers way more than this one. This was a three coater.

Following that is my stunning red-orange creme, Vermillionaire! I have already worn this color two times because to me, it is just the perfect summer "whenever" shade meaning it's festive enough for a nice dinner out but flattering enough that you can use it daily. This was a surprise because I thought it was going to be just a plain red... again. I am pleasantly surprised with this deep orange gem which is bright but not neon, like Haute as Hello. This was a three coater.

Right up next is Knockout Pout, an amped-up bubblegum pink with a jelly-ish texture. I am loving the name of this one, it's so cute!! My swatches look a bit pale for this shade, it's more bright and has more depth than the picture is showing, grr. Anyway, I like this a whole lot more than I was expecting and out of the bottle it looks much better! This would flatter any skin tone and is a cute summer shade. Not groundbreaking, but good looking nontheless! This was a three coater.

Lastly is the stunning shocker of this set, the green (yes you heard that right ESSIE GREEN) Pretty Edgy!! Oh my gosh I can barely believe what I am seeing. Let me recap for you in case you blacked out there for a sec. This is a gorgeous medium grassy green creme (in an Essie bottle OMG!) that's the perfect tone for summer...and for the rest of the year for me! This is not the type of green that can be confused for black, which I love. It's natural looking and fresh and best of all, anyone can, and will, notice! This is going to be a hit, I can smell it. A "must-have-to-buy-now" for any polish fanatic! LOVE IT! This was a two coater.

Overall, this collection knocked my socks off color wise and formula wise as well. Each of my shades were buttery smooth with the exception of Miss Matched, as I explained earlier. My one final problem was that the brushes are still a bit small for my liking, but nothing that will prevent me from wearing the shades, just an... annoyance you could say.

Essie, if you keep throwing collections out like this, you are really pushing the boundaries the right way--delivering unique colors that are still wearable for a big range of people and are flattering on the nail. All in all, I will be sporting the majority of these shades on my tips way more than once and these are the types of colors that I'll want to whip out, even when the season ends. I highly recommend that anyone who remotely likes nail polish to go and check these out ASAP. These collections are the types that truly turned me into a self-proclaimed nail polish fanatic; I like to really flip when I see the colors come to life on my nails! Thank you, Essie, for a beyond fabulous season!! <3

Trend Watch: Summer 2010

Looking at all of the summer collections for this year really has shown me a lot more nail trends that we haven't been seeing lately and some repeats as well.

There have been some neons, but they've fading out for sure since last summer. The only neon colection right now is the China Glaze Poolside. Same thing goes for mattes--not many have been around lately.

But, what's in? Well, definitely the tropical cremes we've seen in Essie Resort and Zoya Flash. Sweet! I am a creme lover and those are especially pretty!

We've also witnessed some super cool shimmer, glass-fleck style to be precise, in Zoya Sparkle, much like last Summer's China Glaze Summer Days collection.

The turquoise teals have been making it big too, with releases in the MAC Alice + Olivia Collection (Morning.After) and the Zoya Sparkle Collection (Charla) to name just a couple.

So which trends have been popping out to YOU lately?! I'd love to know!

Polish Of the Day 7/3/10

Hey everyone! Today my polish of choice was a newbie from the Essie Summer Collection! Haute As Hello, to be more specific. This one is a bright coral mixed with a bright peach--all around very bright! This is not even close to a neon but it still veers far away from the pastels we saw this Spring. That's what I like about it; it looks so different on the nail than one would even expect! A perfect selection for anyone this summer!

This baby was a three coater for me, but it may just be my thin-coating self that would need that many layers! First coat looked a tad streaky but it evened out after that with the buttery formula.

Day 5) The Excuse / The Party.

Hey everyone! If you didn't already notice, this post is extremely late. I, once again, failed to get Wi-Fi on the island. Anyway, this post is gonna be shorter than usual, for lack of photos and such.

This morning it stormed massively. I sat there watching the lightning and the crazy rain for quite some time this morning. Although this sounds weird, it was quite fun.

Then we began to set up for a party for one of our close friends here on the island. It was kind of a surprise but it was cancelled from happening at a local pool because of the weather. We set up a little gathering complete with candles and cupcakes!

Day 4) The Ferry.

Okay I’m going to warn you all ahead of time: EXCUSES ALERT, EXCUSES ALERT! All right, now that that’s out of the way, this post is up pretty late because this morning and last night, I was having serious trouble finding Wi-Fi to work with. But now, it’s all good!

So this morning I woke up nice and early (wow, for once!) and ate blueberry pancakes with my younger cousin before she went to school for the day. They were delicious!! Then, I rushed to shower, get all ready, and pack for the weekend! Yes, you heard that right, packing…again. I am going to be spending the weekend on Martha’s Vineyard with some other family, which is exciting!

The ride was about two hours and perfectly comfortable. I called some family and friends that I hadn’t talked to much, or at all, since I left for this trip, just to catch up!

When I arrived at the ferry station, I grabbed a quick lunch at Pie in the Sky, a little place around the corner. They were super nice, and even let me charge my cell phone! Here are some pics that I took at Wood’s Hole:

Hello Martha's Vineyard~

I arrived and met the family, settled into the house I’ll be staying in, and hit the beach for a bit! I unfortunately forgot my camera at the house, but I took way too many photos on the ferry, so it evens out!

I went for a walk down Main Street in Vineyard Haven, where I’m staying, and was intrigued by a cute little shop called Rainy Day. I picked up quite a few things for a surprise birthday party, that’s happening tomorrow, for a friend! It’s going to be a lot of fun, I’ll keep you guys up to date on that.

Day 3) The Shopping.

This morning I got up at a fairly reasonable hour, which is a big improvement since yesterday—my time zone senses are adjusting already!! The weather was looking sunny and I was excited to get up for the day.

I actually rode on down the street to Harvard square, to shop for a couple of hours while my relatives were out running errands. I was super excited to shop once we drove on into the square; the stores all looked super-cute!! I first stopped in The Tannery. Now, there are two “Tanneries” in the square, and one of which is more focused on older things and shoes. That is the one I immediately scoped out--and guess what I found. Forty-nine dollar jeans! Not just any jeans, well-made designer jeans!! I am not one who’s totally brand conscious, but I know that these jeans are super comfy, cute, and normally crazy expensive!! I tried on a few and settled for a pair of light wash Seven Jeans.

Next I headed over to a little shop called Black Ink. This shop basically carries a ton of fun little trinkets and such, all for a ridiculously expensive cost. I was hanging out in the store for quite a while lusting over all of these cute little things that I’d probably never use but I settled on buying two cute greeting cards—for a total of $7, wow. Anyway, this is a local thing so I was glad, nonetheless, to have bought them.

Then I picked up a postcard for my friend and walked over to Starbucks for a little drink. Caramel Frappuchino with no whip, please!

After, I headed over to the Urban Outfitters (the one in Harvard Square is quite nice) and after I spent quite a bit of time in LUSH Cosmetics (which are all handmade—love!) and made a few yummy smelling purchases! Although these two stores are chains, I had actually never been to an Urban Outfitters before and my local LUSH is very inconvenient to get to, making these shops must-visits in my book.

Overall, shopping was a lot of fun. Harvard Square is great for that type of thing! Be careful you don’t get lost, though! The streets are a bit confusing for a “foreigner” like myself!

After that, I went to the Galleries in SoWa (South of Washington Ave.) with one of my relatives. We spend some time looking at the beautiful galleries, here are just a couple.

Here is a shop/gallery called Bead+Fiber. This place has such nice people that work here, and they offer classes for anyone!

This place, GALVIN-ized Headwear, has amazing hats! They are each handmade in the store!!

For a late lunch/snack, I stopped at this fun little café, which serves a delicious artichoke and orzo salad. I was going to take a photo, but I had eaten it all by the time I remembered!

Then it started to rain. Boo!! Luckily, though, it cleared up quickly after.

Day 2) The Settling In.

Today got off to a pretty slow start, to say the least. For anyone who has ever experienced jet lag, you know what I’m talking about. I forced myself out of bed at about 11:00, Boston time, and started to go through the motions of getting ready for the day.

But not everything here is perfect at the moment. I actually left the majority of my makeup in a little bag on the plane. UGH! How awful, I know. Today is a makeup free day for yours truly, sadly, so I am not truly in the spirit without my matchy makeup. :)

So thus it begins: the journey back to the airport!

The parking garage was extremely hard to navigate. I was looking for Terminal C for about 10 minutes.

Inside of the door into the terminal, it looks very strange. The windows are green tinted and there are blaring bird-calls coming out of little speakers like the ones below. So annoying! :P

Finally, I got into the elevator but I could not escape the bird-calls! They even had a speaker set up in the elevator!

I went to the lost and found and luckily, my cosmetics bag had been recovered! Yay!!

This is my relatives’ little, curly dog, Decota, and when we got home from the airport, we took him for a walk around the neighborhood! It was not hot today, actually warmer in the house at times! I kept my sweater on comfortably all day long.

Day 1) The Flight.

Okay, so I hopped on my flight to Boston yesterday and realized that I had a window seat (yes!) making it convenient to snap some photos along the way. Here are just a few: (Also, I am wearing Color Club Wild Child with some self-painted flowers, and yes, I did them on both of my hands. That is the power of a toothpick!)

OPI Shrek Forever After Collection

As I bet you already know, there's another Shrek movie due out in theaters soon, and what other way is there to celebrate it than with a new collection of polish! You will bet that I'll be wearing one of these darling shades when I go see this flick! Sorry that this post is a tad late, but lets get going!! Formula and other ramblings after.

First off, here's Funky Dunkey, a rich grape purple creme, very similar to China Glaze Grape Pop, which I swatched a little while ago. Purple creme, love it! Although it's not totally unique, it's still very gorgeous and flattering on the nail.

Here is What's With the Cattitude? my baby! I love love love this color so much! As I was wearing this one out and about, I got loads of compliments (please excuse the tipwear) and I actually convinced quite a few people to pick it up at the store, it's so stunning! Pictures can truly not do this bright baby blue creme justice, you'll have to check it out! I'll be wearing this one to see the movie, for sure!

Next is Rumple's Wiggin' which is best described as a stark pastel pink-lavender creme. Although that is quite a mouthful, this color is also exceptionally pretty although it had the worst application issues of all of the shades. More on that at the end of the post. Anyway, I'd associate this shade more with Spring, but then again, that may be just me.

Here is the main event shade, Who the Shrek Are You? This is a bright moss-like yellow green shade that inches a tad bit into sewage territory. In my opinion, this shade just doesn't flatter my skin tone, but kudos to OPI for going unique!! This shade actually really does flatter a more fair skin tone as seen on Kelly from Vampy Varnish here.

This little gem I also got tons of compliments on, Ogre the Top Blue! This is like a lighter version of Essie Mesmerize from a few seasons back, but equally stellar of a polish! This color is great for summer without bursting into the neon zone, a total winner!

Last but not least is Fiercely Fiona, which is like a light yellow slightly tinged with some Who the Shrek Are You? green. I really wanted to love this shade too as much as my beloved China Glaze Lemon Fizz but sadly, the green tinge just did not flatter on my particular skin shade. I love this color in the bottle and I really hope that you all have the skin to pull it off, because this one is so pretty and unique!

To the formula spiel! All of these colors were opaque in 2 coats with the exception of Fiercly Fiona, What's With the Cattitude? and Rumple's Wiggin' which were 3. All of the formulas were great and smooth except for my bottle of Rumple's Wiggin which was a bummer. It was a bit on the globby and streaky side--did you all have the same problem too? All I can assume for now is that mine's a bad bottle.

Overall, OPI has WAY redeemed itself in my mind with this unique fun set of cremes! They are all really cool in one way or another, especially Funky Dunkey, What's With the Cattitude? and Ogre the Top Blue. Melikes! You will absolutely not regret picking these shades up, especially creme lovers like myself--holla! Tell me your faves in the comments below, so we can have a little chat!

Yes! This totally brightened my Monday when I found out that the Zoya polish exchange is back in action! If you have never done a Zoya polish exchange before, it's a great thing to do. Hello everyone and Happy Earth Day! From reading this blog, you know I'm quite passionate about the environment. I read some amazing tips for a greener lifestyle here so click if you'd like to read more. I'm going to do a special post for the occasion, so here we go!

Eco-polish award: Dazzle Dry and Zoya!

Not only is Dazzle Dry big 3 free, it's also nitrocellulose free (a chemical) and the only polish that is, currently! And Zoya, being big 3 free as well, is also free of camphor and it's vegan! Woot, woot! Not to mention the original creator of the polish exchange, a super-green practice!

Laziness vs. Green!

Well, I wanted to tell you guys quickly that being green is not as easy as some make it out to be, I know. But, if we all are passionate about it and know how much our planet REALLY needs it right now!! I know it can be tiring composting away, as well as walking downstairs to the recycle bin! This is just a little blurb saying, WE CAN DO IT!

Green tips!

1) Reduce your general intake of, well, stuff! Reducing is much of the equation. Here's an example, buy not purchasing that pack of makeup brushes online (that you may not really need) you are saving: gas emissions being created from shipping, extra gas emissions from the factory, a large box, tons and tons of styrofoam pacing peanuts, plastic that it's wrapped in, etc!

2) Bring your own tupperware to restaurants! If you want to take your meal home, just put it in that instead of using a styrofoam box, yuck!

3) Garage sale! Instead of throwing out your old things, they may become somebody else's treasure! Or, ahem, not wind up in a landfill...

4) Eat in, not take out! Think of all the extra trash created, just from getting a take-out meal as opposed to eating at the place. Well, plastic utensils, plastic boxes, extra napkins you probably don't need, and a big paper bag! Well, that's an awful lot if you ask me.

5) Unplug, unplug, unplug! Anything that's not in use, unplug, or shut down as opposed to "sleep" mode. I'm quite bad at this one, my laptop always is on sleep mode, but I'll try to stop! And those chargers hanging out off the wall, without a cell phone attached? Got to go!

So everyone, I hope you embrace Earth Day and not just think of it as a single day, but a reminder to all of us that this is what we should be conscious of EVERY day. Until next time, have an earthy day <3

Zoya Flash Collection

Hi everyone! I'm here and excited to show you the Zoya Flash Collection, the other half (with sparkle) of Zoya's Summer 2010 showing.

Robyn. This bright turquoise creme is definitely a summer shade! It's a standout color and a gorgeous one too. I like this shade because it's bright but not too bright (I don't know about you but I am a bit tired of neons.) Oh, and did I mention that this shade looks good any skin tone?! If you are looking for a fun color that's still flattering, Robyn's your gal!

Perrie. This soft lavender creme is nothing short of stunning. This color is light yet saturated enough to pop on anyone's skin. It kind of reminds me of a shade of the typical "perfect" flower--so pretty!! Lot's of lavenders exist in the world of polish but something about this one, possibly the undertone, just makes it stand out in a huge way. If you even remotely like purples, you need this baby!!

Dana. A bright, cool-toned berry creme, Dana is also ranked high on the flattering scale. It's not totally unique but not even close to ugly! I will definitely be wearing this one, as well as Robyn and Perrie. To better describe this shade, it's either a super-saturated watermelon or a slightly pinker raspberry. This would also make for a standout pedicure!

Jolene. This slightly-brighter-than-bubblegum-pink creme is a fun color and waayy cute! I didn't care for the appearance as much on myself as I would on another skin tone, but I actually ended up loving it on me! When you see this color, the first thing that probably comes to mind is candy, or for me, those colorful stripes on beach umbrellas! Just summer all around!

Maura. A bright tomato creme, and totally fabulous! I love this type of shade in particular on my toes and in all fairness, if this isn't a summer color, honey, I don't know what is! This shade would look stellar on anyone, in my humble opinion.

Jancyn. This soft tangerine creme has a bit of brightness to it--a tangerine scream!! Haha get it, tangerine creme, tangerine scream, hah hah. It, well, rhymes.... *cue crickets* Back to reality, this is an alright color. Orange cremes and I don't get along too well, they just don't look good on me, that's all! This is an okay shade on it's own but it leans dangerously close to mac 'n cheese territory. Although, this is an easy to like color if you have the skin tone to pull it off.

Dazzle Dry Wear Test

This is right after I did my manicure so obviously no tipwear or any issues.

Okay, as you all can see, I do have some tipwear around the edges of my polish, boo! You can see it better in the second pic.

Here's the status at day 3. I have some extreme tipwear at this point but no chipping at all, so that's good. The second pic shows the status on the nail that was holding up the worst. Yuck.

Overall, this system holds up okay, but just okay. I change my manicures pretty often so this would not be an issue for me, but I don't know how much this would affect your guys' "nail painting routines."

All About Dazzle-Dry!

So I recently received some goodies from Dazzle Dry (a nail polish company), A 3pc Kit including Nail Prep, Base Coat, and Top Coat. I review the whole system and walk you through how it works from start to finish in the video below. I also put more info and pictures below taken of this cute kit! Enjoy!

One thing that's super cool about this company is that it's eco-friendly and vegan! Always a super-big plus in my book!! It's also the only polish currently on the market thats Nitrocellulose free, which is a big chemical. Cool or what?! Pictures below...

Zoya Sparkle Collection

Hello everybody and today I am here to show you all the fabulous Zoya Sparkle collection for summer 2010. It is one in a two-part collection (Flash and Sparkle) so Flash will be coming up soon. I did a short, short video which gives a more accurate depiction of the colors but I still wrote a normal extensive review. You can watch it if you like right here below. Enjoy!
PLUS, CHARLA IS THE ONLY COLOR I SWATCHED BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL SO HARD TO CAPTURE ON MY CAMERA, THIS WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS EVEN REMOTELY ACCURATE.

Now the normal review:

Ivanka. This sparkling glass fleck is chock full of gorgeous multi-dimensional "flakie" shimmer, as is every color in the collection. I'd describe this shade as a light-ish emerald green with hints of deep blue, although that doesn't show up on the nail--just the green. This color is so amazingly pretty and very wearable for a green I'd say. I'm glad that the super dark greens have begun to fade out of season, I love it when people can actually tell I'm wearing green and not black!

Charla. When I see this color, one word comes to mind. MERMAID!! Isn't it though? A mermaid blue sparkling glass fleck that slightly resembles that absolute perfect tropical ocean you see on a photoshopped postcard. Aaahh, I can feel the sand in my toes already. Back to what I was saying, I love this color too! The mixture of shades within the bottle of polish is simply mind boggling and you would have to see it in person. Outstanding!

Mimi. This shade is a deep royal purple sparkling glass fleck and boy, is this a rich shade or what!? The flaky shimmer in it is a somewhat light purple and that just gives the "grape-syrupy" colored polish all the more depth. Don't get grossed out by that description, if you did I apologize, but this is a fantastic color!! It's so unique too and a color for all you purple lovers to definitely go gaga for!

Alegra. A rich fuchsia candy-like sparkling glass fleck like this just completes this collection, in my opinion. Even if you are tired of berry like shades, the sparkles and flakes definitely re-vamp the trend. Oh, wait, did I see a few silver flakies in there too? Yes, yes, this polish is full of fun little pieces that you normally wouldn't think to find in a pink. A unique pink!! Thank you Zoya.

Nidhi. This tomato paste red with minimal silver flakies has me scratching my head a bit. It does not seem to me to fit in with the rest of this collection's "chock-full-o-sparkles-and-depth" bio. The sparkles in this one seem to be hiding, or like somebody just sprinkled some on top instead of mixing them in at full throttle. Anyway, not my taste but I just feel like something is missing.

Gilda. This sassy hot pink sparkling glass fleck is super summery! I love the fact that Zoya put a new spin on a classic neon hue. I really like this color as well and this is a type of polish perfect for a fun party or a day at the beach! The hue almost reminds me of a super-bright tropical flower... ahh the thought won't escape my mind, summertime vacation :)

Onto formula, all of these were 3 coaters except for Nidhi, which was 2 coats. Signature Zoya application, FLAW-LESS *said in a sing-songy voice*! Anyway, the type of simmer in these polishes really impressed me both by it's unique feel and combination of glass flecked shimmer and metallic shine. Color me a HUGE fan! Zoya has been knocking it out of the park for the past few seasons, and with a huge smash at that!

China Glaze Up, Up, and Away (3 colors)

Hello all! Today I have some super-cute polishes to show you from China Glaze's Up, Up, and Away collection! I really liked these colors, they are my fave 3 from the whole bunch, so here they are, without further ado. (Formula and other ramblings after)

Something Sweet. I wore this delicate mod baby pink in my "Day at the Beach" post recently. It's a stunning pink and very flattering too. It gives your nails that "perfect" look especially from afar without the time and hassle of doing a french mani. I love this little one!

Lemon Fizz. The name fits this shade of polish PERFECTLY! It's a pale lemon yellow color, like the typical pale yellow that one orients with Spring. I was very surprised at how bright this color was once it's on the nail! A bit more so than in the bottle!

Grape Pop. This blue purple creme is very much like the color of grape soda. I'm surprised that this was released in a spring collection, it looks a bit more summer/fall like to me but it does balance out the other pale cremes nicely, I'll admit!!

Onto formula... All of the polishes were two coats except for Lemon Fizz, which was three. There were no formula troubles on any except for Grape Pop. Okay, if you can't already tell from the swatch above, I had some major issues. It was super thick and runny and I had some serious pooling of polish at my cuticles. Major frown. For the most part though, all top notch!!

Earth Update: My Day at the Beach

So, pretty recently, I was walking along the beach not too far from my home, having a good relaxing day with my brother. The weather was great and the day was a beautiful one. Almost as soon as I was starting to float off to daydream-land, I spotted something out of the corner of my eye. No slower than the time it took me to turn my head, I was slapped back into reality with the cold, unwelcoming sight of...

...this.

Really? How lazy can people be? Well, I sure saw it for myself. Suddenly the trip had taken a more serious turn. I looked at my brother and promptly decided that we were going to pick up all of the trash. Yup, you heard me, every single piece of trash we found on the beach. Almost as soon as I had taken another step in the sand, my eyes begin to feast on, well...

and even this. Although it's nasty and covered with algae, I picked it up and threw it into our pile, which we carried to a nearby trash can.

This little assortment of some of the garbage we found on the beach may be pretty, or even dubbed "artsy" if it wasn't made up solely of gross scum that lazy people refuse to pick up. What on earth makes people think that they are so beyond important that they have no place *gasp* picking up their own trash! I have yet to think of one good reason that littering is okay and is acceptable, to do. Well feel free to open my eyes if there's something that I'm, well, missing.

"Well, it's the animal's fault if it eats the trash and chokes. Yeah! I mean, umm, it should know better not to get near it!"

"Well, umm, it won't stay there forever right? Pssh, yea seriously, it will find its way into the trashcan. Or better yet the ocean, yeahh! I will never have to see it again if it just floats on away, I mean..."

"Come on. Like one piece of trash will ruin the ENTIRE beach. Um, yea, I didn't think so either."

Well, I picked up all of this trash. And there I am, putting handful one into the trash can! No, I do not do this to make the litterers feel like picking up their own stuff isn't their job. Essie Resort 2010 Collection

Hello everyone! Today I have some swatches for you all of the Essie Resort for Summer 2010 collection. It's full of four gorgeous cremes that totally scream out "summer here we come!" if you ask me. Now, to the pics! We'll talk formula after.

Turqoise and Caicos. The star of the collection in my book. This beautiful seafoam green creme has a slightly sheer and jelly like consistency. My swatch is three smooth coats. I love colors like this! It's kind of like Essie Greenport and China Glaze For Audrey but a greener, less creamy version. Simply stunning and very unique! This resembles like the typical "perfect tropical waters" color, which makes me go all googly-eyed. I cannot think of a single thing that I even remotely dislike about this color. It is a work of fabulous genius! :) BTW, sorry for the slightly funky looking swatch, this was so hard to capture accurately on camera!

Lapis of Luxury. This cornflower blue creme has a similar texture and consistency to Turquoise and Caicos. I absolutely adore this color too, actually it's my current pedi! Anyway, this color is absolutely fab and a very unique blue I might add. Wow, this collection even already is taking me over by storm, I love it!

Playa Del Platinum. This muted sandy creme is not very fitting with the rest of the colors we see in the collection. However, it does balance the fabulous colorful polishes out, and in a very good way at that! This color is a nice alternative to the traditional sheer pink or muted pale gray and it looks surprisingly lovely on nails. Color me amazed!

Splash of Grenadine. This light berry magenta creme is lovely indeed for a summer collection! This color is a bright-ish shade but not very overwhelming, which is a nice change from all of the blazing neons we have been seeing lately. A very pretty polish and I think that this will flatter any type of skin tone equally nicely!

These shades are extremely wearable as well and for the most part, I loved 'em! I have been wearing Turquoise and Caicos on my nails for about 4 days and I got tons of compliments, whether from my friends or random sales clerks when I went shopping! Anyway, needless to say that one was my favorite but closely followed by... well that's too hard to choose right now, I like 'em all! The formula on these was semi-sheer but fabulous. Super smooth and easy to apply, perfection in 3 coats. I like what Essie has been doing lately in terms of collections. The Spring collection was gorgeous and last summer's, and the north fork were no exception. Essie, I love your pinks and other signature colors, but when you go for fun shades like this, there's no way you'll get it wrong!! Bravo, resort collection, you are here to stay.

Earth Update: Meat

Anyway, I read this article recently and it seriously changed my life, or at least the way I look at things. Color Club Rebel Debutante Collection

Here is the Color Club Spring 2010 Collection- Rebel Debutante. I can't really pinpoint any common theme throughout this collection except that they are all cremes of some sort. Sorry that my swatches are not the best right now, my current rainy weather forbids me to swatch outside! So sad... Please please cope with me though, this is the last of bad indoor swatches, I will be fixing my indoor situation soon *cue "yayyy" sound effects!* To the swatches! Colors first, formula after.

Uptown Girl: Muted purple creme. A bit more purple then my swatch shows, sorry!! This is very reminiscent of OPI's Parlez Vous OPI? from a few season back. A pretty shade, but not so...

unique if you know what I mean. Pretty and wearable but not fresh or exciting really.

Best Dressed List: I surprisingly like this sandy medium tan creme on me, although I hate most colors of this type! It must have different undertones but I can't quite put a finger on what they are. Anyway, this is a nice neutral shade for Spring, perfect for paring with a floral dress or a fun super-accessorized outfit.

Gossip Column: This shade is a dark teal blue that looks a touch lighter in person. It reminds me of China Glaze Shower Together from AGES ago! Remember that one? Very similar but I'm afraid better than this version. Back to the post, this is not an ugly color, but not unique or pretty enough for me to go drooling all over myself. Just a "meh" color.

Charity Ball: Okay, this color is not true to life AT ALL here. It's much less of a diseased poop shade and more of a deep burgundy chocolate. I just had to throw that out there. Anyway, even in real life it's kind of a "huh" color. Dark browns in spring, you said what?? Yea, and it's not the most flattering of all colors either. Sorry, not a winner.

She's Soooo Glam: A mod-like easter egg pink, only vamped up a notch in brightness! This sure is one blazing polish, girl! Super bright on nails, although it doesn't look it in the bottle. A unique snowflake for a pink polish, and I like it!

Ms. Socialite- I like this one. It doesn't look totally stellar in the bottle but on nails it just brightens up and comes to life, baby! Super pretty and totally fitting for Spring's bright and fun vibe. A keeper for sure!!

Rebel Debutante: The namesake color of the collection. A very soft and sweet spring green creme, yet extremely neon at the same time! This one is a very unique color but I am not so sure I am in love with the color... not yet anyways. What do you all think of it? I either love it or really hate it, I can't decide. Weird, but true!

Okay just realized I forgot to swatch two colors! Aaaahh, my fault, so sorry! They will be up in the next Polish of the Day post, so don't fret!!

On formula. Okay, I am assuming that I got a bad batch because mine were very thick, but also really like to pool at my cuticles. Not cool or fun for me, just a pain. These were all three coaters, or else they were not even or opaque completely. The formula kind of ended up making me a little mad during swatching, it was so hard to get on even remotely normal looking for most of 'em! All I can assume is that I got a bad bunch. And a heads up, I experienced some extreme chipping on these, after 1 day of wear! (see first swatch)

Anyways, there are a few colors worth picking up, but I'm not sure if it's really worth all that much fuss.

Essie Resort Collection 2010 Preview

I am seriously loving this right now, my Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette. It looks like this from the outside and is very slim and portable. But inside, oh boy here we go, it's filled with 88 drop dead gorgeous shades from white to black and every color in between. And even more shocking, they don't skimp on quality! Want to know the real reason that makes this palette unbeatable, the price. Shimmer palette is only $19.95 and yes that's so true!! They also have a matte 88 palette, which I will be getting soon :) Here's another pic below of the inside:

The Holy grail!

I've also been loving my Miss Dior Cherie perfume. It smells so delicious and totally appropriate for Spring! Oh, before I continue, random fact: If you haven't noticed lately, I am kind of obsessed with Spring. I don't know why, I usually do not really care about the season change, but I'm so ready for the death of heavy coats already for the season, good grief! Anyway, back to the scent, it's really quite unique! The way Dior describes it as, "a modern fragrance that captures the timeless couture spirit of Dior. A new interpretation of the original Miss Dior fragrance, Miss Dior Cherie combines pure couture spirit with the audacity of youthful, playful notes for a fresh approach to a timeless classic. Notes of chic, green tangerine, violette, and pink jasmine mingle with soft patchouli, musk, and delectably sweet strawberry leaves and caramelized popcorn for a delicious scent that's truly irresistible." Anyway, I am not a perfume expert, but this is a really amazing scent. Check it out!

This is a super cute notebook that I got in a pack of 3 from my local Target recently! Not only is it super-chic, it's totally eco-friendly--- of course that makes it a must have in my book! Check out a photo of the label below.

Polish Of the Day 3/23/10

Here's a new little segment on Polish our Planet, called polish of the day. It allows me to take a break from collection swatching and show you guys some of the colors in my stash that I really like!! Enjoy!

Okay, so my polish of the day is Essie Beach Party. I am not sure if this is discontinued or not but I think you can still find it on the Essie website. Anyway, about the polish! This is a gorgeous pastel pink/peach creme. It is very stark and opaque in three coats, plus it really pops against my skin tone, which I love!! Although the formula was not top notch on this polish, I will obviously still wear it... I mean look! It was streaky on the first coat and semi-globby. This is a very good shade for springtime, it kind of reminds me of an easter egg pink, and would make for an amazing pedi. This shade has a touch of peach in it so it gives your nails that traditional perfect shade, only amped up with some bright white!! One of my favorite pink shades by Essie for sure. Another swatch down below that shows its more pink side.

Zoya Reverie Video-Review!

For Spring, Zoya hit us with a collection of six beautiful shimmers with duochrome. I would call this the perfect example of a unique spring collection. Let me explain.

So, recently I was thinking, "we need to get some new spring staples, but what would they be?" Zoya has me scratching my head no longer, this is genuis! Another thing that is so spectacular about this collection is that each color is so wearable. And the formula? Couldn't better!

Hey all and welcome to a new occasional segment here on Polish Our Planet called Beauty Faves of the Moment! Basically I'll just tell you what I have been loving lately and a little bit about the products! Just a heads up, I am absolutely NOT being paid or sponsored by any of the companies mentioned in this segment, it's all honest opinions from yours truly! So let's get into it!

First up are these lovely OPIs (from left: Absolutely Alice and Mad as a Hatter) from the new OPI Alice in Wonderland Collection! If these babies have not caught you attention yet then, hello? You have GOT to check them out!! They are packed full of fun combinations of glitter perfectly inspired by the new movie, and what can I say? I'm a sucker for some blingin' nails (don't get me wrong, I'm a creme lover too) and these do NOT disappoint! They are sold out now everywhere around me, so snatch these up while you can!!! Swatches soon :)

Next, I have a non-nail product to show ya, hence the name "Beauty Faves of the Moment." It's Prime Time by Bare Escentuals and this cool little click pen squeezes just the right amount of primer onto my eyelids! What's an eye primer? Well, this one prevents creasing, makes every color applied on to last ALL DAY and it makes any eyeshadow you put on more vibrant! It's just awesome, what else can I tell you? Most every morning, I click the applicator one or two times and then smear a dollop of it on each of my eyelids and up to the browbone. Then I use the spongy tip to delicately blend the primer into my skin and right after that, apply my usual eyeshadow. Voila! That's all there is to it!! To be honest, I didn't even test this one out before buying, I just took my friend's word for it being awesome! Luckily, she was right :)

Now, back to a nail product. This is non-acetone "Instant Polish Remover" from my local drugstore--CVS. Well, just the name alone instantly intrigued me along with the interesting packaging. I was running low on polish remover anyways so I picked it up for a test-out. FYI, I never really buy my remover at salon stores. Although it may work well, it's far too pricey for me... I'd rather spend that money on the polish colors themselves! Anyway, back to the product. So, I opened it up and saw this spongy thing inside with little holes in it... weird! What you are supposed to do is stick a cotton ball in one of the holes and lightly moisten it with the liquid below. (Or, as I tried, stick your fingers in the holes and rub them around a bit, whatever directions!) What I found out was this remover works just as well as acetone (or better), without parching my cuticles! A must have from now on! And remember... from the drugstore!!

Lanterns!! Who couldn't love them? Especially these that I picked up in Chinatown recently with my friends. I can't wait to hang these up in my room for decorations! More pics below.

So, I hope you all enjoyed this post, not my usual. Swatching has been tough because of the rain lately. I like all my swatches to be done in natural light, it's a much better depiction of the color.

Earth Update: Double Sides/ "Me" Update

Hello readers and before I give you my Earth Update, I'd like to apologize for the lack of posts this month. Don't fret, I'm still here just super-duper... swamped with life. I have 2 collections that I'm almost done swatching, hint: essie and orly!!! So stay tuned for them, I'll get them up ASAP for you guys!

Now back to the Earth Update:

How often is it that you see a super cool picture or article on the internet and you just have to print out? In all likelihood that is more than one page and after you are done looking at it or reading it, you put this article straight into the trash. There are a few things that you can do to make this process a bit more eco-friendly. One is, recycle it! But two, my main point, is to print using both sides of the paper when possible. This is both eco- friendly and convenient; you have no need to search for a paperclip/stapler and you are using half the amount of trees!! Even more, this will save you money since you won't have to purchase as much paper.

OPI Suede Collection with Topcoat

A week ago I promised you all pics of the OPI (fabulous) suede collection but with topcoat! I really think that putting topcoat on these polishes, I used Seche Vite, relly gives them all an extra glowy-blingy-ness, that I love!! Hope you enjoy these as much as I do!

Here is OPI Ink Suede, with Seche Vite! Ta-da, didn't I say these were awesome now?! Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that, like the original Suede Collection swatches that I did, the original color is on my middle finger.

We'll always have Paris Suede with Seche Vite. This one is especially pretty!!

You Don't Know Jacques Suede with Seche Vite. This one I like too! It's much more golden, which I love. This would go great on darker skinned gals!

Lincoln Park After Dark suede with Seche Vite. This is one of my favorite colors, both in suede form, suede with topcoat form, and original! Simply flawless on every level!!

Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees Suede with Seche Vite. This one is like an edgy alternative to a normal silver polish, This would look amazing on anyone.

Russian Navy Suede with Seche Vite. This is ultra pretty as well, look at me, I sound like a broken record!!

Overall, I love these polishes, both in suede and with Seche Vite! I will definitely be sporting these both ways over the course of this season!!

Earth Update: Green Teen

OPI Suede Collection

Hello readers and I hope you are starting off you weekend fabulously! Thank gosh it Saturday though, right? I had a serious case of what I like to call "mega-exaustion" on Friday so lucky for me, weekend break! Here's something to pump up your afternoon, OPI's new Suede collection! This is awesome! The colors are like matte shimmers, way cooler in pictures, so... check them out!

OPI Ink Suede. Just a heads up, with all of my swatches, I put the OPI original color on my middle finger for a comparison. Although it looks like a light blue in this picture, it's actually a darker more rich looking color. I think this is a fabulous suede although it's puzzling it doesn't look more like tho original. Nevertheless, a pretty shade.

OPI We'll Always Have Paris Suede. This is a beautiful soft light purple and anyone could wear this. Although it's purple, OPI kind of turned this into an almost-neutral shade. This goes with pretty much anything, which I love! Once again, there is pretty much no resemblance to the original, but that doesn't make me like it any less!

OPI You Don't Know Jacques Suede, one of the colors that looks like it's original, shiny counterpart! I liked this version of YDKJ a lot but I'm still not as head over heels with at as with the first two, sorry! The suede version is a little bit less muted and gray toned that the original.

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark Suede. This is definitely darker than We'll Always Have Paris Suede and I think I may love it a little bit more! As you can see, the original version is a gorgeous dark vampy, nothing like the suede one. I love both versions of this color to death, they are both absolutely stunning but in totally different ways.

OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees Suede. This medium charcoal gray looks better, in my opinion, than the original. As you may be able to tell, with the original Suzi Skis, it looks nothing like the suede and I had some mega formula trouble including cuticle drag. Enough with the original though, the suede is way better! This would look especially nice on shorter nails!

OPI Russian Navy Suede. Last but certainly not least, this is one of the stars of the collection! This is more bright and beautiful in person, pictures don't do this justice! Once again, pretty much the only resemblance to the original is that they're both blue. But, hey, what's the big deal?! This polish still rocks!! :)

So, my overall opinion? Fabulous colors, cool finish, awesome formula! But the names... why not just make up new color names since they barely look anything like their counterpart? Now that, is seriously puzzling to me.

But that doesn't ruin my love for these totally cool polishes!! They all look great on nails and I think anyone can rock this stuff, even if the matte trend is not your thing!

On application. These are each two coats. The formula on these is slightly thick, which is nice so that there's not any pooling at the cuticles. Once again I'll say ignore the no basecoat warning!!! Just as with the OPI mattes, be sure that your basecoat is completely dry before applying. Aside from that, no issues! Also, these dry fast but not as fast as original OPI mattes. Just apply in as few strokes as possible and is it's uneven, the 2nd coat usually evens it all out in the end.

My concluding thought? I love suede!!

Having a Blast with Matte About You!

Hey everyone, aren't you glad it's Friday?! Because I sure am, that's for sure! Today I have some super cool swatches with my new favorite matte top coat in the entire world! You may have seen it before but this type of thing never gets old, you ready for it? Introducing, Essie Matte About You!!!

On the left is Orange Marmalade by China Glaze with Seche Vite topcoat and on the right is Orange Marmalade with Matte About You. I decided to swatch Matte About You (cute name!) on top of a glass-fleck shimmer polish. Flakies and shimmer always look great matte! In my humble opinion, this looks awesome!! When you wear this combo and look at it up close, the shimmer, instead of bling-dazzling all over the place, looks as if it's frozen in time! Way cool. Matte about you also dries quickly so be sure to apply a thin, even coat quickly over the entire nail. If you let this topcoat dry in between strokes or take a long time to apply it, there are some extreme lumps and bumps, but it's easily prevented by moving fairly quickly. This top coat is easier to apply than the OPI mattes so it's not a daunting task, don't worry!!

If you hadn't already noticed, my swatches are a little bit different now, but its still me! I think that closer-up swatches allow you readers to get a better look at what's going on with my nails!

If you are still iffy on the whole matte trend, a matte topcoat is a great thing to have. Not only can you test out any color you want matte for the price of one polish, there's no commitment to buying a bunch of new matte shades! Seriously, this thing grows on you, it's so cool to have!

Out of all the other matte topcoats I have tried, this one makes you colors the most... matte. It's not a satin topcoat or one of those other ones, no. This is true matte right here! Essie has done a wonderful job on this product and I think it deserves a special place in every polish fanatic's stash!

Orly Once Upon a Time Collection for Fall 2009

Hey everybody, here is the review of Orly's Once Upon a Time Collection. The whole theme of this collection is fairy tales and fantasy so be prepared for some cool color names!!

Here is Prince Charming, a muddy taupe creme. When I first saw this one in the bottle, I immediately though, this is going to look awful on me. Well, shockingly, my fortune telling skills are a but rusty. This color is great, plain and simple! Super flattering, I think anyone could rock this! A chocolate milk color, but in a good way.

Next is Poison Apple, a bright red-orange creme. This is very orangey, much more than some of the other reds released recently. I thought that I wouldn't like this one either but once again I was proved wrong by Orly. I think this color would make a great pedi.

This was a pleasant surprise, gray is back, with Mirror Mirror! Mirror Mirror is a very light gray creme, like pretty cement! This gray is darker than OPI's Moon over Mumbai but lighter that China Glaze's Recycle. This is a good tone for a gray, very seasonally appropriate, and cute too!

Next, here's Happily Ever After, a fabulously elegant beet-purple with light purple shimmer. The theme of this color kind of reminds me of OPI's Overexposed in South Beach, with a little less shimmer and brightness. Nonetheless, I love this one, although it doesn't translate as well into pictures. Trust me on this one, it's cool!

Meet Pixie Dust, a light blue toned gray with flakes of fabulous silver shimmer. This color is absolutely stunning! As Scrangie said, it looks like broken glass on cement, which is just too cool! I have never seen any other color like it before, so unique and pretty. Usually I'm not a fan of shimmering grays but this gem is to die for.

This collection is beautiful! I love all of the colors even though none are super groundbreaking, they are just gorgeous to boot! Formula was good, two coats for all but Pixie Dust, which was three. None of these are shown with topcoat. I love these names of the polishes, so fun!! It's so hard to pick a favorite but Pixie Dust is slowly inching ahead in my book, but the others are right there too. Wow Orly, count me surprised! I didn't expect such cool, fall-like, and stunning shades and wow, I got them! Watch out Fall, my polish wardrobe is getting some new staples :)

New Layout Everybody!!

Hello all and happy Friday night! If you didn't already notice, Polish Our Planet has a new look!! You all like it?! I need commentary, tell me what ya think!! It's a little different and I even need some getting used to it!! The above buttons... hmm don't really bother clicking on them, it's all a bit confusing. Aside from that, I think it's a nice change of look, agreed? Posts will continue as normal even with the new look, no worries. So... enjoy, and comment! Thanks everyone!! :)

Essie Loves Diamonds

Here is the (finally!!) Essie Loves Diamonds collection with Judith Ripka. These are just like the traditional essies we know and love but with a twist, they're infused with diamond dust! It gives each of these polishes a tiny bit on micro-pearly shimmer, neat! Check out swatches below and commentary by yours truly.

First we have the lovely sheer, soft baby pink with a hint of sparkle. This is three coats and as you can see, there is still nail visible through it. This color is meant to be worn sheer. The itty bitty sparkles are not visible in any or my swatches, so sorry, but trust me, it looks cool in this one!! I actually think this color is quite flattering and cute, love the tone in the shade!

Next up is Heart my JR Jewels, a deep mahogany brown with a tiny bit of sparkly diamond dust. This to me is a fall brown at its best! Totally great color that could work well on any fall occasion. I am surprised at how much I am loving this color, it's just so pretty!! This is two flawless coats.

Last is Queen of Hearts, a traditional like red. My swatch is a bit too orange toned to be completely accurate but here is two coats. I didn't like this as much as the others but seriously, it's just me. I just don't go gaga over red, sorry! There is nothing wrong with the color, just not my taste. If you want a fun twist on a classic though, Queen of Hearts is your bet.

Overall, I am always up for a fun twist on polish collections and from this one, I got two shades that I will sport A LOT! Application: BEAUTIFUL!! Flawless formula, to die for! The only thing I wish I could change is... more diamond dust! I wan't the whole world to see it, I just think that this theme is so cool! Overall Essie, pretty colors, rockin' formula, cool idea! I hope to see more fun things from Essie soon!

Earth Update: Paper Bags

Generally, people use a lot more paper bags than they really need whether for packing a lunch on the go or anything else. A great way to be more eco-friendly with your paper without completely ditching paper bags forever is to reuse them!! Paper bags can be used many more than one time you know! They don't usually get ruined after one use so... reuse! Another way to be eco-friendly with your bags is to always RECYCLE them!! Reduce, reuse, recycle; it will make a world of a difference!

Zoya Yummy

Sorry for not posting for a while, I've been unbelievably busy!! Well to continue with my string of Zoya posts, here is a longtime favorite of mine, Zoya Yummy! This is a perfect sky blue, summery, fun, bright creme. Application was perfect and I'm not going to get into the perfectness of Zoya formula yet again because I'm beginning to sound like a broken record. This is two coats here and that's all you are going to need! I decided that this would be a perfect color for today as the weather here where I live has been fabulously warm this past weekend! Summer is not even close to over in my book!!

Zoya Dare

Yes! Finally my computer (5 days late... sorry!) is fixed! Okay, so happy Friday everyone! Here's the Zoya Dare collection, 5 cool toned cremes and one shimmer. I hope you love this collection as much as I do!

First here is Vanessa. Rich, deep berry red creme. This color is very pretty on nails, it makes whoever wears it look very put together. I'm loving this shade right now, it reminds me of a frozen raspberry.

This is Ciara, a reddish purple creme. This is a much warmer and purpler version of Vanessa. I did not expect to like this one at all but when I put it on... wow! I loved it!! It's just such a flattering color there's not really anything bad to be said. I love surprises and this was no exception!

Next up is Demi which is a fabulous mauvey purple creme. Purple creme, enough said! This is one of my favorites in this collection without a doubt. Many beauty bloggers are a fan of purple cremes and I am so with them. They're just so pretty, what's not to like, right? Demi is ultra fall-like so it fits right in this collection.

This is the stunning Pinta, which is tied with Demi for my fave. Pinta can be described as a deep blue-ish violet creme. This color is super unique, I don't have anything like it at all! This shade to me seems a little more winter-y than fall, but trust me, I can deal! Don't pay attention to the washed out color of my hands, I had to do some photo editing to make the polish color look accurate.

This is the green of the bunch, Envy. I'd call it a blackened moss green, or algae green. Algae makes it sound gross so I guess I'll go with moss. This is super dark, think pine trees at night. On the first coat, the polish looks a little grainy but by the second, it's all gone, luckily. I like this color but I'd prefer it to be slightly lighter to show the world that it's not black, it's green!

Last but definitely not least is the one shimmer here, Ibiza. A deep blue with beautiful small particles of sapphire shimmer. This is what you'd call lit from within, I mean wow! Once you step into the sunlight with this little gem on, it just comes to absolute life! The shimmer is mesmerizing, truly beautiful.

Zoya's two collections for fall were super fun and pretty! The application of all the dare colors were perfect in only two coats. Zoya formula is simply great! So easy to apply.

I love this collection so much!!! What are everyones favorites? Are you as big a fan as I am of these shades?

Posting has been a little bit slower this past week because my main computer with all of my photos on it is in the shop being fixed. I have all of my photos from 2 new collections swatched that I can't wait to show you! I've been working off my brand new laptop for the time being. Don't worry, I haven't forgot you!!! I just got this in an email from Essie, It's the Fall 2009 collection!!! I am excited for this one! I don't really know what a sleek granite gray is, even from the pictures I can't totally tell. Midnight Cami and Angora Cardi look totally rad! I love the names on these ones, too cute! This hardly looks like a traditional Essie collection and I am eating it up!! Swatches coming later.

Earth Update: Transportation

It's easy to take your car everywhere but it's not so easy on the environment. Try carpooling with two or more people if you have to go somewhere, like school, work, to the library, etc. Even better, use your bike to travel short distances. Biking is much faster than walking and fun to do too! If you commute daily for a job, try to take public transportation. I know it's more convenient to drive yourself than take the train or bus but try to use public transportation like, once a month or once a week. Also, combining all of your errands into one trip saves time and energy!

Zoya Truth Collection For Fall 09

For Fall, Zoya hit us with two collections: Truth and Dare. Today I'm bringing you swatches of Truth, a combo of metallics and shimmers all on the warm side of the color palette. Check out the pics below and enjoy!

First is Anaka. This shade is a dark pink full of shimmer, a little darker than my picture. The shimmer is cool because it floats right beneath the surface of the polish and if that wasn't cool enough, it's flaky shimmer (which I love) in gold! This color is just fabulous! It's a great transition shade from summer to fall and a must-have in my opinion!! Scrangie has some great swatches that show the shimmer here.

Drew can be described as a rosy mauve shimmer. It's a muted color which makes it very Fall-esque to me, more so than Anaka. I liked more than I thought I would, once I put it on my nails. It's a very flattering shade to almost any skin tone.

Next is Isla, a shimmery deep red. This color looks a lot like China Glaze Short and Sassy (see here) in the sense that it looks lit from within. My camera did not really capture the beauty of this color -- the sun was setting, give me a break! Anyway, this color is beautiful and perfect for a Fall collection.

This gorgeous rosy warm coppery metallic is Kalmia. I really like this one. You know, when applying metallics, be sure to NOT use thick coats or else you will be stuck with, gasp, lots of brushstrokes! Just stick with normal coats on this color and you'll be brushstroke free!

This is Penny, a gold shimmering metallic. Zoya describes this color as a "copper gold metallic" but in my opinion, the gold WAY outshines the copper. Nonetheless, I like the brightness that this shade gives off whether gold or copper! (Remember to do thin coats, like on Kalmia, to avoid brush strokes!)

Last is Salma which is a super-warm red metallic shimmer. I expected this to be super close to Kalmia but I was pleasantly surprised when they were totally different. The textures of Kalmia and Salma are similar but Salma is much more red toned. This is a great and wearable fall shade which looks totally rad on nails!

The formula on these polishes, like all Zoya's, were perfect and flowed onto the nails like butter! These were all swatch-tastic and opaque in two coats. I personally ADORE the brush on Zoya polish because it's not flat, wide or moppy but not ultra skinny. It's the perfect size for all of my nails!

This collection overall is great, I like all the colors and can pull them off too! I love the variety in these shades, Zoya didn't just stick in one little niche, there's seriously something for everyone! My favorite may just have to be Anaka, I am a sucker for some cool shimmer. I don't have any complaints at all with colors, formula or otherwise. Fall is going to be a great nail season, I can tell, and Zoya has definitely done their part in that!!

Earth Update: Trash

You probably create more trash than you think. The plastic utensils you get from eating out, paper bags, plastic bags, saran wrap and aluminum foil from a packed lunch, paper napkins, the cups from getting ice cream, shopping bags, etc. Just because these are small things doesn't mean they don't count! All this stuff will still end up in a landfill. To be more eco-friendly, try to be more aware of when you create unnecessary trash. For example, pack your lunch in reusable plastic containers like tupperware. You can also bring your own bag when grocery shopping, and when ordering out? Ask for no plastic utensils! Each little thing really helps, and it's easy!

OPI Russian Navy Matte

Here's another one of my matte OPI colors, Russian Navy. I really like this color, although it doesn't have that cool shimmery-ness of La-pazitively Hot matte. Original Russian Navy has shimmer in it, so it does not particularly look similar at all in matte form. I love navy polish because it's not too dark or overpowering, a more "soft" version of black polish, but it still has the edgy factor. Totally perfect for fall/winter!!
