Blue is the new Happy!
Mesmerize sure is one fabulous blue! Wow, Essie, you have done it! If this was a baseball, it would be out of the park! I know, I am going a little bit crazy, but you should be too. Mesmerize is in the Spring 2009 Essie collection, the surprise of the bunch, in a good way of course!! It went on smoothly at two coats, after I added just a drop of thinner (I am wearing topcoat as well). My picture is a bit lighter than the actual color, sorry guys, my camera is crazy! On another note, why is blue always the "sad" color? Well, whoever made that up is a little bit off... this royal blue creme makes me happy!!!
Ha ha! Ignore my stupid puns. Well until next time, have an "earthy" day!!

Earth Update: Catalogues
I bet many of you get catalogues in the mail that you neither read, nor need! Recently, I found a way to stop that. You can visit catalogchoice.org to cancel all of your unwanted extras. It's easy, free, and good for the environment. Have you ever thought how many pages actually go into a catalog?! It's definitely no small number. If you don't even read them, what's the point of getting them in the mail? All it does is waste trees and pile up your mailbox to no end!! Please go to catalogchoice.com and in the future, be more aware of your paper usage!
Thanks everyone and have an "earthy" day!!

Overexposed In South Beach
Overexposed In South Beach is a fun dark magenta. The lower picture is more accurate color-wise, it's darker and allows you to see the amazing shimmer. Many polishes that have fabulous shimmer inside the bottle fail to show up as brilliant on the nail. This baby is an exception! From the South Beach collection (OPI's spring/summer 2009) this was definitely one of the standouts for me. The picture is two coats of color and topcoat. Now moving on to the formula, it was smooth but the brush was very strange. It had the OPI signature Pro-wide brush but mine was extremely flat. It was a challenge to get the polish onto my pinkie nail without looking like I finger-painted my hands. I will deal with problems, though, if it means wearing a stunning color like this!

Earth Update: Ocean Warming
I recently visited the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. It was an amazing experience and I brought back a few facts about the environment. Listen to this:
"Global Warming should be called ocean warming as more than 80% of the added heat resides in the ocean." -California Academy of Sciences
Wow, I have never thought about it that way before. No wonder so much of the world's ice is melting. I will be back soon to update about more ways to help. Until then, feel free to research about it, tell your friends, and contact me!
One more thing, the movie Earth has come out today! It looks amazing and here's the best part. Disney will plant a tree for every ticket bought on opening week! Good deal, I'll be there and hopefully, you will too!
Oh, I forgot to say Happy Earth Day!!

Earth Update: Package Stuffing
You probably get a lot of junk mail in your mailboxes every week, but what to do with it? Well, if you have a package to mail, just stuff it with ripped up junk mail, as opposed to buying new packing peanuts. It saves you some money and is a good way to put something you consider to be useless... to use!
Remember this and have an "earthy" day!!

What a Surprise, Wow Essie!
When I saw this Essie on the shelf, I thought it was a very pretty color but I was wary about purchasing it. Many of Essie's soft colors are too sheer or watery but this was an exception! I got total coverage in two coats! It reminds me of one of those fun easter egg shades and I love easter! The formula in my bottle went on smoothly, no cuticle drag. I think that this light lavender would be flattering on mostly anybody's skin tone. This is definitely going to be one of my go-to colors throughout spring!
Edit: It's called St. Lucia Lilac

Earth Update: Recycling Part 1
Recycling. I bet everyone here has heard that before, its not a very creative way to save the world but its extremely important. I just had kind of a newsflash about it let's see... 5 minutes ago. I was typing a list up and I printed it out. Only one thing missing, the title. I had to put in the title and re-print the entire page. As I was reaching for the garbage, though, I though "Hey, I can just use the back of the sheet!" It wasn't for work or anything so why not!? After printing the page again, I noticed a spelling error, a real pain. I fixed it and reprinted, on a separate sheet of paper. After that I found a few more errors and had to go through the tedious process of fixing them, which was a waste of my time but also a great learning experience (that sounds cheesy!)
Just think, I bet that happens to countless amounts of people every day and probably most of them do NOT use the backs of their sheets or recycle. Think of how many trees are lost from nature because of our mistakes! You can't help making errors but when you do, use the backs of pages and recycle! It will make a world of a difference!!!

One of the Best Greens Ever...
Ta-da! Here is one of my favorite greens ever, China Glaze's Tree Hugger! Not only is the polish color to die for, that name just screams... me! Tree Hugger was released with the Spring 2008 ECOllection (all of the colors are environmentally themed, sweet!). It is a bit lighter than my swatch depicts and if you can't already see it, there is some multi toned green shimmer in it. This is 3 coats of polish and no topcoat. The formula was a bit thin but it was still easy to apply and quick-drying. This picture does not show the polish's true beauty so until I get rid of my cheap camera, you are going to have to use your imagination a bit here. Enjoy and have fun!

Earth Update: Eat Local
Getting food at your nearest supermarket may be convenient, but listen to this: Many foods sold at supermarkets are shipped from far away. This is bad because the transportation used to ship the food long distances releases a lot of pollution. Also, the packaging on food, which is created in factories, uses a lot of natural resources. Opt for getting your fruits, veggies and snacks at your local farmer's market! You are getting the freshest foods and supporting two good causes: The growers of the food, and the environment!! If you don't have a farmer's market near you (aww...) there's an easy solution. Grow some things yourself! You won't have to look any further than your own backyard for fresh and delicious foods.

Parlez-vous OPI?
Hey everyone! For my nail-of-the-day, I chose something very casual, yet... not boring! The color is called Parlez-vous OPI? by OPI. It was released with the fall 2008 La Collection de France and it is definitely my favorite in that collection. Muted colors, like this violet one, have been popping up for a couple seasons now and I can't get enough!! This is two coats of polish with topcoat, which gives complete coverage. Sorry for my strange finger crooked-ness (is that a word?), I didn't want to smear the polish!

Earth Update: Paint Problems
Painting things yourself is a good way to save money but do you know how to dispose of it properly? Most people use latex paint today, which is good because oil paint is highly toxic, but everyone still must be aware that paint isn't very environmentally friendly. Instead of washing your paintbrushes outside, rinse them in a sink. If you wash them outside, this will contaminate groundwater. Bring your extra paint to a place that disposes of hazardous waste as opposed to rinsing it all down a drain.

For Audrey
This seafoam blue-green creme gives off a fun vibe and is appropriate on any skin tone. A flattering color, For Audrey (as a tribute to Audrey Hepburn) by China Glaze is very similar to the gorgeous shade of a Tiffany's box! The formula in my bottle was perfection, it went on smoothly and the brush shape really fit the curve of my nail bed. Fittingly, this shade is one of my personal favorite colors.

Earth Update: Skylights
Ever been alarmed by the cost of your electricity bill? Well, one thing can sure make a difference in your life. Install a skylight! Overhead skylights reduce your need for artificial lighting. You can also open them to release warm air, as opposed to the AC.
As well as helping your wallet, skylights can help mother nature too. Overusing artificial light and air conditioning counts for a lot of the pollution our society produces today.
So... get a skylight and have an "earthy" day!
